A Sinking Feeling

The smooth, featureless top of a textured golden head is the only part of the face visible; the lack of expression is almost serene, eyes closed, and brow relaxed. The submersion is all the way up to the top of the nose, silencing, suffocating the anonymous figure.

I cast the top half of a styrofoam head to create the illusion of submersion; the goal was to create a metaphor for deep sadness, a sadness so heavy, it drowns you. Succumbing is a relief.
